Our intrepid mountain-conqueror and fundraiser Eric Davis is at it again! This time he is aiming for Aconcagua, the highest peak in the world outside the Himalayas. Eric has previously climbed to base camp Everest (5,380m) and Kilimanjaro (5,895m) but this new attempt is in a different league at 6,962m. The whole trip is self-funded with sponsorship money raised being split between Grippers and Asthma UK.
"There will be major temperature variation ranging from possible +30C at the start to -40°C at the summit if wind chill is factored in. At higher elevations the walking requires use of crampons and ice axes in order to successfully traverse ice fields. Other specialist equipment required are snow goggles to tackle potential snow blindness, double layer boots to combat frostbite, and a sleeping bag good for temperatures of -35°C as living quarters will be tents (albeit storm proof given the wind force on the mountain). Leckhampton Hill seems a bit on the small side for training purposes but it did work for previously successful trips up Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro!"
